CDR Richard “Rickâ Spon, USN (RET) 57 of Middleburg, FL died Tuesday May 12, 2009.  Mr. Spon had been a resident of Middleburg since 2003, was a member of the Patriot Guard Riders and had retired from the US Navy after serving 33 years.

 

Survivors include his wife of 38 years Elaine Spon, 1 son Jason Spon, 1 brother Doug (Wanda) Spon, 1 sister Leslie (Rick) Wicker and 1 grandson Hayden Spon.

 

Funeral Services were held 10:00 am Monday, May 18, 2009 in the Advent Lutheran Church of Orange Park with Pastor Bob M. Hale officiating.  Burial followed in Russell Haven of Rest Cemetery with Military Honors.

  In lieu of flowers, the family has suggested a donation be made to the Navy-Marine Corps Relief Society, 875 North Randolph Street, suite 225, Arlington, VA 22203
