Carol Ann " Kelly" Grey, 62, of Green Cove Springs, died Tuesday, April 26th after a 20 year, courageous battle with breast cancer. She lived in the Green Cove Springs area for most of her life. At age 14, she helped raise her younger siblings after the death of their mother, Etheleen Snow Bishop. She graduated in the class of ’66 at Clay High and later received a Bachelors degree from University of Florida.
She is survived by her devoted husband of 21 years, Rod Grey, and her son, Jason Riggio. Her surviving siblings are Darrell Bishop, of Green Cove Springs, Denise Okie, of Jacksonville, and Cindy Ecker of Palm Coast.
Kelly’s loved ones and friends will always remember her as the fun loving, strong, and outgoing southern belle, who loved Black Creek and all its beauty and culture. She received a certificate of recognition and induction into the Grassroots Hall of Fame from the Florida Families for Clean Air for her help in leading environmental action against pollution in Black Creek. She is a self-taught land developer who named a road on Black Creek “Manatee Point Roadâ in honor of her love for God’s creatures. Kelly’s passions and zest for life on Black Creek will be a lasting endearment to us all. She was a talented cook and she enjoyed water skiing, boating and reading. In her 50’s, she learned to play the piano. Most of all she loved her family and our Lord.
