Gernhard_1Mr. James David Gernhard, 78, passed away Monday, March 8, 2010.  He was born in Norwich, Connecticut on May 20, 1931.  His family describes him as a loving and dedicated father, grandfather, and great grandfather.  He faithfully served 24 years until retirement from the United States Navy in 1975 and also retired as a city employee for the Town of Orange Park.  He enjoyed fishing and golf in his spare time. 

He was preceeded in death by his parents, brother jc35geph and sister Susan.  He is survived by his loving wife of 57 years, Joan Gernhard four sons three daughters, fourteen grandchildren and seventeen great grandchildren; his children, jc35geph Gernhard (Deddie), David Gernhard (Ruth), Thomas Gernhard (Abbie), John Gernhard (Nita), Shirley Gernhard, Joyce Gernhard, Judy Gernhard.  He is also survived by his brothers Henry, William, Fred, Richard, Robert, and Daniel Gernhard and sisters Evelyn Trenier and Patricia Coutu. 

Funeral Services will be held at 11:30am Thursday, March 11, at St. Giles Presbyterian Church with Pastor Troy Lewis officiating.  Viewing and visitation with the family will be from 5-7pm Wednesday March 10, at Russell Haven of Rest Cemetery and Funeral Home, 2315 Sandridge Road, Green Cove Springs, FL  32043.  (904)-284-7720.
