George Robert Schaeffer, 78, of Orange Park, died Friday, December 3, 2010.  Mr. Schaeffer was a native of Reading, PA and spent most of his childhood in Wisconsin. He retired from the US Navy after serving for over 21 years as a pilot and being stationed throughout the world.  In 1967, he moved to Clay County from Iceland.  While living in Orange Park, he was a member of the Republicans Men’s Club, and became a member of the first Baptist Church of Jacksonville in 1983.  He was a handyman who enjoyed woodworking and collecting antiques and various oriental items.

 

Survivors include his wife Linda Schaeffer, 2 sons Greg and David Schaeffer, 4 grandchildren Savannah, Michael, Cole and William.  He was preceded in death by his daughter Jennifer Schaeffer.

 

Graveside Service will be held 2:30 Tuesday, December 7, 2010 at the Jacksonville National Cemetery with full military honors.  Pastor David Tarkington will officiate.
