John_Provinsky_obit_picJohn Edward Provinsky, 65 of Jacksonville passed away on Thursday, January 14, 2010 following a battle with cancer.  John earned the Eagle Scout award in high school and graduated from the University of Florida’s College of Building Construction.  He served proudly in the U.S. Army with a tour of duty in Vietnam.  He retired as a Lt. Colonel in the U.S. Army Reserves.  His professional career included 25 years as a project manager with Batson Cook Company, a local commercial contractor.  First and foremost he was a strong Christian and did his best to serve others.  He was a devoted husband and father and instilled Christian values, morality, perseverance, integrity and a strong work ethic into his daughters.  John had a great love of history and enjoyed scuba diving and preservation of historic items.

 

He was preceded in death by his parents, Freda and Francis Provinsky, and is survived by his wife of 43 years, Carol Petrey Provinsky, two daughters Lisa Kilis and Stephanie Spano (jc35ghua), granddaughter Emily Kilis, brother Leo Provinsky and nieces and nephews. 

 

Funeral services were held 11:00 AM Monday, January 18, 2010 at Russell Baptist Church, 2299 Sandridge Road, Green Cove Springs, FL 32043.  Interment  followed in Russell Haven of Rest Cemetery, Green Cove Springs, FL with Military Funeral Honors.
